本稿では、現代文学作品を中心としたクメール語の資料から用例を収集し、先行研究で「突然起きた出来事」を表すとされてきた語句/srap tae/の出現環境と用法を整理した。その結果、先行研究で指摘された「ある出来事が起きている最中に別の出来事が起こる」という同時性だけではなく、継起的で、かつ発話者の予想外の出来事を表すことを示した。また、共起する動詞や副詞の特徴と、/srap tae/の節が表す出来事が、短時間で起きる急激な変化を表すとは限らないことを示した。
This article aims to explain the usage of the Khmer conjunction /srap tae/. In previous studies, /srap tae/ generally implies “suddenly” or “abruptly”. Vandy (2023) highlighted that /srap tae/ is used when two events occur simultaneously. This article examines Khmer sentences in modern literary works to show that /srap tae/ is similarly used when two events occur successively. Additionally, this article shows that the verbs /khə̀əɲ/ and /lɯɯ/ tend to co-occur with /srap tae/.
