classification is based on morphological, syntactic, and semantic criteria. However, the boundaries between parts of speech are not necessarily discrete, and such parts show continuity, with intermediate items often being pointed out. This article discusses the continuity between adjectives and nouns in Russian, with particular attention to the phenomenon of possessive adjectives functioning as antecedents of pronouns. It shows that possessive adjectives, which are classified as adjectives in terms of part-of-speech classification, behave more like nouns than other adjectives in that they can be the antecedents of pronouns, and that they are positioned between other adjectives and nouns from a semantic-functional perspective. This suggests a continuity between adjectives and nouns.
