| 内容記述 | The purpose of this paper is to provide an interim report on the progress of “the Bank of Japanese Example Sentences” (Jreibun) project “Construction and applied research of the database of high-quality Japanese example sentences available for the development of dictionary websites and applications” (JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number 21H00535, Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B), 2021-2024, Principal Investigator SUZUKI Tomomi) and to examine approximately 9,000 example sentences created during 2021-2022. This examination is conducted through an analysis of the vocabulary used and observed sentence patterns. First, the paper provides detailed procedures, including the project implementation system and preparation for the selection of approximately 10,000 items that form the basis of example sentence creation. The analysis reveals that the total sentences created use around 16,000 different vocabulary items and approximately 247,000 words in total. The vocabulary usage is well-balanced across various parts of speech. Examining frequently used words also reveals common sentence patterns and discussed topics. Furthermore, the creation of Ngrams based on all example sentences indicates the frequent use of expressions conveying the meaning of “decision,” “ preliminary expression,” “occasional occurrences,” “natural changes,” “conscious habitual actions,” “general statements,” and “sentence-ending expressions indicating the speaker’s judgment.” Taking into account previous points made by Suzuki and Nakamura (2023) regarding the considerations in creating example sentences, this paper reports on the actual process of sentence creation from the perspective of one of the project members. Additionally, some example sentences are accompanied by audio recordings, and a report on the recording and editing activities conducted in 2022 is provided. Creating well-thought-out, high-quality example sentences through human effort, as well as databasing them is not an easy task. However, it forms the foundational aspect that ensures the quality of this database. For the remaining two years, we plan to continue enriching the database with highquality example sentences. |
