| 内容記述 | For a long time, Ikawa Village was geographically isolated and had minimal linguistic contact with surrounding areas. This isolation appears to have contributed to the development of its distinctive linguistic characteristics. The presence of forms lost in other Central Japanese dialects (i.e., remnants of Eastern Old Japanese) and “new forms” resulting from unique changes have attracted considerable scholarly interest. However, there has been a notable decline in the use of local Ikawa dialects, in part due to the rapid decline of the local population and an aging demographic. We provide an overview of the characteristics and current status of the dialects of Ikawa, known as the “Language Island.” First, we summarize the survey conducted in this study and its results. Next, we discuss the reasons for this rapid language shift based on interviews and literature sources. Finally, we describe our projects aimed at revitalizing the Ikawa dialect. | |||||||||||||||||
